Our firm's founder, Carlina Tapia-Ruano, is widely renowned as a leading expert in immigration law. On June 22, 2006 Carlina Tapia-Ruano was installed as President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) during the association’s 50th Annual Conference in San Antonio, TX. AILA is a national bar association of over 12,000 attorneys and law professors. Ms Tapia-Ruano is the first Hispanic to be elected to this position in the 60-year history of AILA.

Carlina Tapia-Ruano has concentrated her practice in the field of immigration law for over two decades.  Ms. Tapia-Ruano has served on countless national committees as a liaison to various federal government offices. In addition, she has been Chair of the Chicago Bar Association Section on Immigration Law, and was a prior board member of the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. Ms. Tapia-Ruano has testified before the US Congress on the USA PATRIOT Act, is a frequent lecturer on immigration law to attorneys all over the US, and appears frequently in newspapers, radio and on Spanish-language television programs.

In addition, Ms. Tapia-Ruano was an adjunct professor of immigration law at IIT-Chicago Kent School of Law and DePaul College of Law in Chicago, and has published several articles in leading legal publications regarding various topics in immigration law. She holds a rating of AV (very high to preeminent) by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, is listed in Woodward/White's Best Lawyers in America, Leading Lawyers Network, the International Who's Who of Corporate Immigration Lawyers, Marquis' Who's who of American Women, is a lifetime member of United Who’s Who, and has been named a “SuperLawyer” in Illinois every year from 2005 to the present.
